Elizabeth Richardson is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Beveridge & Diamond, P.C. Her practice is primarily focused in the areas of environmental transactions, due diligence, environmental compliance counseling and product stewardship. She has represented a number of individual companies and trade associations in a variety of industries, including chemicals, electronics, recycling, and consumer products.

Ms. Richardson provides representation on the environmental aspects of major transactions, including identifying and evaluating potential environmental liabilities associated with major chemical and other manufacturing facilities, drafting environmental provisions of agreements, and transferring environmental permits.

She provides regulatory counseling on solid/hazardous waste, hazardous materials transportation, international restrictions on shipments of recyclable materials, remediation issues, environmental audits and a variety of permitting issues. She successfully negotiated a significant penalty reduction related to hazardous materials transportation. She has also represented trade associations and companies in challenges to EPA rulemakings and other agency actions. 

Ms. Richardson has extensive experience counseling clients on developments pertaining to, and seeking compliance with domestic and international product stewardship initiatives related to product design and recycling, including the European Union's RoHS and WEEE Directives.

Significant pro bono matters have been a part of Ms. Richardson's practice. She served as second-chair trial attorney in a medical malpractice case that culminated in a jury trial. Ms. Richardson also represented the family of a disabled child seeking appropriate educational placement under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

Ms. Richardson received her legal degree from the University of Virginia (J.D., 2002) and her undergraduate degree from Duke University (B.S., cum laude, 1999). While attending the University of Virginia, Ms. Richardson served as managing editor of the Virginia Environmental Law Journal (2001-02) and interned with the Southern Environmental Law Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. She is a member of the Virginia and District of Columbia Bars.
